Sarfaraz Khan Joins Team India for Sri Lanka Test Series

Indian batter Sarfaraz Khan has joined the Team India camp as they prepare for the first Test against Sri Lanka, commencing August 15 at Galle. Sarfaraz replaces Sai Sudharsan, who has been ruled out of the series due to injury.

A snapshot shared by Sarfaraz on social media shows him sporting the Indian jersey, showcasing his toned physique following dedicated fitness efforts in recent months. His last appearance for the national team was in November 2024 during a Test series against New Zealand, which India experienced a disappointing whitewash.

Sarfaraz made his Test debut earlier that year against England, and in a total of six Tests and eleven innings for India, he has accumulated 371 runs, averaging 37.10, which includes a century and three fifties, with a personal best of 150.

His remarkable domestic season laid the foundation for his return to the national team. Sarfaraz scored 429 runs across seven matches in the Ranji Trophy, averaging 53.62 and posting a high score of 227.

In the T20 format, during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he excelled with 329 runs from seven innings at an impressive average of 65.80 and a striking strike rate of 203.09, including one century and three fifties. Additionally, in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Sarfaraz notched 303 runs in six matches with an average of 75.75.

His consistent performances attracted a contract from Chennai Super Kings worth Rs 75 lakh, where he contributed 161 runs in seven innings at a strike rate nearing 170. Following this, he further demonstrated his prowess in the Mumbai T20 League playing for the Aakash Tigers MWS, scoring 161 runs in five matches.

Currently, Team India sits fifth in the World Test Championship standings, with four victories and four defeats in nine matches, yielding a Points Percentage (PCT) of 48.150. Under the leadership of Shubman Gill, the players are gearing up for this much-anticipated series against Sri Lanka.

The updated squad for the Test series includes: Shubman Gill (Captain), KL Rahul (Vice-Captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, Devdutt Padikkal, Saransh Jain, Auqib Nabi, and Sarfaraz Khan.
