MeT Predicts 10-Day Wet Spell with Heavy Rain in J&K
The Meteorological Department forecasts heavy rains across Jammu and Kashmir for the next ten days, warning of possible flash floods and landslides from August 9 to 11.

The Meteorological Department (MeT) has announced a 10-day wet spell across Jammu and Kashmir, anticipating heavy to very heavy rainfall, particularly in the Jammu division. Between August 9 and 11, the region may witness flash floods, landslides, and waterlogging due to intense downpours.
A MeT official indicated that light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely on August 7 and 8, affecting several areas within the Union Territory. They noted the potential for brief, intense showers in selected locations.
From August 9 to 11, the forecast predicts multiple spells of rain and thundershowers throughout most places in Jammu and Kashmir. Particularly, heavy rainfall is expected in several districts of Jammu, while some areas in the Kashmir division may receive intense showers.
Following this, light rain and thundershowers are anticipated in various places from August 12 to 17, with the likelihood of brief intense showers at select locations.
The MeT Department has issued a cautionary advisory for the period from August 9 to 11. They warn that the predicted torrential rain and intense showers could lead to dangerous flash floods and landslides, especially in vulnerable locations, while low-lying areas remain prone to waterlogging.
The department stated, “Torrential rain and brief intense heavy showers may generate flash floods and landslides at vulnerable places and cause waterlogging in low-lying areas.”
Officials urge residents to steer clear from nallahs and landslide-prone areas. Further, authorities are advised to stay vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures during this impending wet spell, ensuring the safety of all residents.
